Gentle Grounds | Publication
Overview
Spring 2024 | An artist book exploring the closeup textural landscape of my hometown, Mill Valley, CA. This became a precursor to (and a piece of) my Fall 2024 solo exhibition, Gentle Grounds for Seeing. The observational process I followed in creation of this book was a key spark in conceptualizing the show.
Process
On a springtime visit home, I observed the natural spaces around me, illustrated the textures I saw and took photos. Pulling from past journal entries, I wrote textual anecdotes to relay my relationship with my hometown and the forest. I using these to explore typography within my publication. I printed the book on the risograph, and added foldout elements and windows with vellum.
